Today came across this buzzfeed article about white privilege. In case you missed it, white people have it easier than black people. SHOCKING, I know. But after reading the article, I couldn’t help but think about the similar statistical discrepancies that arise when you compare GENDERS.
Many of us like to pretend these days that the genders are exactly equal. But I thought I would just factually post a list of the exact same statistics that this article sites for White privilege. Exept I would focus on gender privilege. The main factors are these: Educational attainment, likelihood to go to prison, and the likelihood of prison released men to find jobs when compared with black men.
So let’s delve into it, shall we?
Women earn 57.4% of all bachelor’s degrees.
This means a woman is 32.6% more likely to graduate from college than a man.
Possibility of going to prison:
Men are 8 times more likely than women to go to prison. So…800% more likely if you are into percentages.
Likelihood of attaining employment:
Fuck the studies, for this one, and just let me tell you something: No one has a higher chance of getting hired (for a non-physical labor job) than a hot, smart, socially intelligent 20 something girl. She will get hired in the service industry, she will get hired through her connections of being a hot girl. Once she hits 30-35-40, however, her flirty little maneuvers don’t seem so great any more. And the smart women (the ones who were lucky enough to lock down a husband when they were young) start having babies.
(Study on how women in their 20’s out-earn men:) http://content.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,2015274,00.html
I see so many stupid articles like the above, I have learned to tune them out like I’m sure most of us in the sphere do. But I think it’s important to note that a factual article such what I have written here, even if given really fun graphics!;) would never be featured in buzzfeed or another ‘mainstream’ publication. However, currently anything that feeds the popular groupthink about white privilege and male privilege, and how men need to stop being men and get more in touch with their feelings, well that kind of shit is supersharable.
People look through the world through all kinds of lenses; indeed they seem to refuse to look through one that could possibly result in the scales being tipped AWAY from men, not in their favor.
